Spring lawn & landscape cleanup checklist for Central Arkansas

A little work in early spring sets your yard up for the whole season. Here's the order we tackle a spring cleanup around Hot Springs โ€” do it yourself, or have us knock it out in one visit.

1. Clear out winter debris

Rake up leftover leaves, fallen branches, and dead growth. A thick layer of debris smothers the lawn and traps moisture that invites disease. Get the beds and lawn breathing again first.

2. Cut back and clean up beds

Trim back last year's dead perennial growth and any winter-damaged branches, pull early weeds while they're small, and re-cut clean bed edges. This is also the time to refresh mulch โ€” 2โ€“3 inches keeps moisture in and weeds down.

3. First mow โ€” a little low

The first cut of the year can be slightly lower than normal to clear off dead tips and let sunlight reach the soil so warm-season grass wakes up evenly. After that, raise the height back to normal for the season.

4. Check drainage before the spring rains

Spring is when standing water and washouts show up. Note any spots that pooled or eroded over winter โ€” those are worth fixing before the heavy rains do more damage.

5. Set your season plan

Decide now whether you'll handle weekly upkeep yourself or put it on a schedule. Getting on a plan early means you're not scrambling once the grass takes off. We handle spring cleanups as a one-time visit and can roll you straight into weekly or biweekly care if you'd like.
